Photo Book-Proposal - Foreigner

CAPTURING LIFE ON THE ROAD
On Tour with Foreigner

Photographs by Karsten Staiger

A photographic journey behind the scenes of one of rock music’s most enduring bands.

Project Overview

Capturing Life on the Road: On Tour with Foreigner is a photographic journey into the world behind the stage of the legendary rock band Foreigner.

Between 2017 and 2022, photographer Karsten Staiger accompanied the band on tour, documenting the rhythm of life on the road — from the energy of live performances to quiet moments backstage and the camaraderie that develops between musicians, crew, and the traveling world that surrounds a touring band.

With rare access to founding member Mick Jones and the band, Staiger captured an intimate visual narrative of touring life rarely seen by audiences.

The photographs reveal not only the spectacle of arena rock but also the human side of musicians who have spent decades performing around the world.

About the Photographer

Karsten Staiger is a photographer and filmmaker who lived in New York City for nearly three decades.

His work focuses on portraiture and documentary storytelling, often capturing artists and musicians in their natural environment.

Staiger has worked with numerous musicians and performers and spent several years accompanying Foreigner on tour, documenting life behind the scenes and on stage.

His photography combines technical precision with a cinematic narrative approach, revealing moments that often remain unseen by the audience.

The Story Behind the Project

Touring is a world of constant movement — airports, hotel rooms, soundchecks, stage lights, and long nights on the road.

Between these moments, another story unfolds: preparation before the show, the quiet after the crowd disappears, and the everyday humanity of life inside a traveling rock band.

With rare backstage access, Karsten Staiger documented these moments over several years, creating a visual archive of a band whose music has defined generations of rock audiences.
